A court in Russia’s region of Chechnya has banned the anti-Islamic film that sparked deadly protests across the Muslim world, a ruling that in theory should be observed across Russia.

The US-produced “Innocence of Muslims,” a film about the life of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), has led to massive demonstrations across the Muslim world although so far there have been no major demonstrations in Russia which is home to millions of Muslims.

An Islamic exhibition showcasing 16 of the holy relics that belonged to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) opened in Grozny, Chechnya’s capital city.

The exhibition which opened yesterday in Ahmad Haji Kadyrov central mosque will last for four days giving an opportunity for every Muslim to join in the celebration and see these legendary relics.

Outside, a long line of patients wait at Chechnya's state-run Islamic Medical Center, hoping its staff can heal deep psychological wounds left by years of war in the volatile region in Russia's North Caucasus.

Russia's Muslim Chechnya to ban energy drinks

Russia's Muslim Chechnya region is planning to ban the sale of non-alcoholic energy drinks such as Red Bull to under 18s, saying they are un-Islamic and dangerous, health officials said on Monday.

The ban would be the latest restriction from authorities in Chechnya, where shops can only sell alcohol during a small morning time frame, eateries are shut during the Ramadan fasting month and women must wear headscarves in state buildings.

A disgraced Russian army colonel convicted of murdering a Chechen teenager was gunned down contract-style in downtown Moscow Friday, investigators said.

Yuri Budanov was sentenced to 10 years in jail for kidnapping and murdering 18-year-old Heda Kungayeva in 2000. His release on parole in 2009 sparked protests in Chechnya, but was cheered by Russian ultranationalists and neo-Nazis.

Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov took his drive to promote the region where Russia fought two wars in the past 20 years to a new arena: Sultan Bilimkhanov Stadium.

At the venue where his father Akhmad was killed in a 2004 bombing, Kadyrov yesterday captained a Chechen team in an exhibition game against a squad of former Brazilian stars including Romario, the 1994 world player of the year, and Cafu, who represented his country more times than anyone else.

In Russia’s Chechnya republic, which has long been a center of anti Kremlin violence in the Caucasus, Ramzan Kadyrov, the young president, now feels his capital is safe enough to invite 50 foreign correspondents for a news conference and an exhibition football match.

Wearing a black velvet tunic with leather epaulettes, Ramzan Kadyrov, 34, the president of Chechnya, had an upbeat message.

Royal Group, run by the brother of Abu Dhabi’s ruler, may invest several hundred million dollars in housing and agriculture projects in Chechnya, said Ramzan Kadyrov, the Russian region’s leader.

Royal Group, which invested in Al-Reem, a $60 billion island project in Abu Dhabi, recently sent a delegation to the region, Kadyrov said in an interview with Bloomberg News in Moscow on Feb. 19.
